Gig

A light, narrow ship's boat, propelled by oars or a small sail, reserved for the use of the ship's captain or a visiting officer. It is designed for speed and easy handling, serving as a fast and convenient transport between a vessel and the shore or other ships. Historically, gigs were clinker-built and rowed with four or six oars, distinguishing them from heavier workboats like the jolly boat or pinnace.
