Granger road

A railroad in the American Midwest whose traffic came largely from carrying grain and other farm products, so its fortunes followed the harvest. The name comes from the Grange farmers' movement of the 1870s, which campaigned against railroad rates. Typical examples are the Chicago and North Western, the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific, and the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific.
