Railroad spike

A heavy-duty fastener used to secure steel rails to wooden railroad ties, preventing lateral movement and maintaining track gauge. It has a chisel point for driving into the tie and a head that overlaps the rail's base. These spikes are typically made of steel and driven into place with a maul or spike driver.
