A cast iron or steel fitting used to secure bullhead rails to wooden sleepers. The rail sits within a jaw in the chair, held in place by a wooden or steel key driven into a tapered slot. This fastening method was common before the widespread adoption of flat-bottomed rails and direct fastening systems.
