Strap rail
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005699
An early form of railway track consisting of thin iron strips or 'straps' fastened to wooden beams or sleepers. This type of rail was relatively inexpensive to produce and install compared to solid iron rails. Strap rails were prone to warping and detaching, leading to safety issues such as 'snake heads' where the strap would curl upwards.
