Strap

A thin, flat piece of metal or wood used to fasten, reinforce, or secure structural components. Straps are applied across joints or along the length of members to add tensile strength and prevent separation or movement. Metal straps, such as hurricane ties or joist hangers, are specified by building codes for resisting uplift and lateral forces in wood-framed construction.
