Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002643
A hybrid approach to infrastructure, especially stormwater and flood management, that combines natural systems such as wetlands, bioswales, and vegetated buffers with conventional engineered structures such as pipes, culverts, and levees. The two parts are planned as one system, for example a bioretention bed that overflows into a storm sewer. In this vocabulary, gray means built hard infrastructure, while green means vegetation, soil, and other living systems.
