Gumming

The accumulation of fine, sticky material, often clay or wet coal dust, in the cutting bits or on the face of mining machinery. This buildup can reduce cutting efficiency, increase wear on equipment, and impede the smooth operation of continuous miners or shearers. Regular cleaning and maintenance are required to prevent excessive gumming.
