Gunship
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002692
A type of military aircraft, either fixed-wing or helicopter, that is heavily armed for attacking ground targets. These aircraft are modified with side-firing or forward-firing cannons, rockets, and missiles to provide close air support for ground troops or to conduct armed reconnaissance. Fixed-wing gunships, like the AC-130, orbit the target area, while attack helicopters provide a more agile and direct-fire platform.
