Hamming code
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002712
A type of linear error-correcting code that can detect and correct single-bit errors in a block of data. It works by adding a specific number of parity bits to the data block, with each parity bit checking a unique combination of data bits. A standard Hamming(7,4) code, for example, uses three parity bits to protect a four-bit data word, resulting in a seven-bit codeword.
