Hatch

An opening or access point, typically covered by a lid or door, leading into a confined space such as a shaft, raise, or ore pass in a mine. Hatches are used for ventilation, material transfer, or personnel access, and are designed to prevent accidental falls. They must comply with safety regulations regarding guarding and locking mechanisms.
