Hoistman

An operator responsible for controlling the hoisting equipment that moves personnel, materials, and ore in a mine shaft. The hoistman operates the hoist from a control room on the surface, responding to bell signals or radio communication from underground levels to raise or lower the conveyance, known as a cage or skip. This position requires certification and adherence to strict safety protocols, as the operator is directly accountable for the safe transport of everything within the shaft.
