Hot chassis

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002890

A design in older electronic equipment, particularly AC/DC radios, where one side of the AC power line is directly connected to the metal chassis. This configuration eliminates the need for a power transformer, reducing cost and weight. However, it presents a shock hazard if the chassis is touched while the unit is powered and the AC plug is inserted incorrectly.
