Transformer

A static electrical device that transfers electrical energy between two or more circuits through electromagnetic induction, without changing the frequency. It consists of two or more coils of wire, called windings, wound around a common magnetic core. Transformers are used to step up or step down alternating current (AC) voltages for efficient power transmission and distribution.
