Coil whine
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001220
An audible high-frequency noise emitted by an electrical component, such as an inductor or transformer, when current flows through it. This sound results from the vibration of the coil windings due to electromagnetic forces. The frequency of the whine often corresponds to the switching frequency of the power supply or the resonant frequency of the component.
