Inducement
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003008
Sufficient cargo volume or freight revenue offered at a specific port to persuade a vessel operator to deviate from its standard route to call there. A liner service on a fixed schedule will only make an inducement call if the projected earnings from the extra stop outweigh the additional costs, such as fuel, port charges, and potential delays. The minimum quantity of cargo required for such a call is often specified in contracts of affreightment or service agreements.
