International System of Units

The modern form of the metric system, comprising a coherent system of units of measurement built upon seven base units. It is the most widely used system of measurement in the world, both in everyday commerce and in science and engineering. The base units include the meter for length, kilogram for mass, second for time, ampere for electric current, kelvin for thermodynamic temperature, mole for amount of substance, and candela for luminous intensity.
