Knuckle

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003211

The joint or pivot point in a hinge, formed by the interlocking looped parts, called knuckles, through which a pin is inserted. This assembly connects two separate leaves, allowing them to swing relative to one another. The number of knuckles determines the hinge's load-bearing capacity and durability, with five-knuckle hinges being a common standard for commercial doors.
