Marshalling

The process of sorting and assembling individual railway wagons or cars into a complete train for a specific destination or route. This activity takes place in a marshalling yard (or classification yard), where cars are shunted and rearranged according to a planned train consist. The process is complete when the cars are in the correct order, a locomotive is attached, and the brake systems are connected and tested.
