Melt out
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003598
To remove a pattern from an investment casting mold by heating, causing the pattern material to melt and drain away. This process creates a cavity in the refractory shell that precisely replicates the shape of the original pattern. Wax is a common material used for patterns due to its low melting point and clean burn-out characteristics.
