Mixed gauge
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003701
A railway track system where two or more different track gauges are laid on the same sleepers, allowing trains of varying widths to operate over the same section of line. This configuration is used to connect railway networks that have adopted different standard track widths, avoiding the need for transshipment or gauge-changing equipment. It is common in regions where historical railway development led to disparate gauge standards.
