The Motor Octane Number, a measure of a fuel's resistance to knocking or pre-ignition under high-load, high-temperature operating conditions. It is determined using a standardized test engine that simulates demanding driving scenarios. MON is one of two primary octane ratings, along with Research Octane Number (RON), that contribute to the pump octane rating (R+M)/2.
