Anti-knock index
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000226
A measure of a gasoline's resistance to knocking or pre-ignition in an internal combustion engine. It is calculated as the average of the Research Octane Number (RON) and the Motor Octane Number (MON), often displayed as (R+M)/2 on fuel pumps. Higher anti-knock index values indicate greater resistance to uncontrolled combustion, which can damage engine components.
