Motor octane number

A measure of a fuel's resistance to engine knocking or pre-ignition under high-stress operating conditions, such as high engine speeds and temperatures. It is determined using a single-cylinder test engine that simulates demanding driving scenarios. The Motor Octane Number (MON) is typically lower than the Research Octane Number (RON) for the same fuel.
