Non-essential prime implicant
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003917
A prime implicant in a Boolean function that does not cover any minterms that are not already covered by other essential prime implicants. While it can be part of a minimal sum-of-products expression, its inclusion is not strictly necessary to cover all minterms. Identifying non-essential prime implicants is a step in Boolean function minimization using Karnaugh maps or the Quine-McCluskey algorithm.
