Orograph
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-004036
A mechanical device for drawing a terrain profile directly from a topographic map showing contour lines. The operator moves a tracer point along a desired path on the map, and a connected system of levers and a pen automatically plots the corresponding vertical cross-section on a separate piece of paper. These instruments have been rendered obsolete by computer software that generates profiles from digital elevation models.
