Parliamentary train

A train service operated in the United Kingdom to fulfill a legal obligation to provide a minimum level of passenger service on a particular line. This requirement originated from the Regulation of Railways Act 1844, which mandated at least one train per day in each direction at a fare of one penny per mile. These services often run at inconvenient times or with minimal stops to meet the statutory duty.
