Proration

The process of allocating or distributing a quantity, cost, or capacity proportionally based on a specific factor, such as time, usage, or ownership share. In electric power systems, it is the method for assigning transmission capacity or curtailment requirements among multiple users or generators when demand exceeds available resources. Proration rules are defined in tariffs and operating agreements filed with regulatory bodies like the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
