Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-004624

A method of sawing logs that produces lumber with the growth rings oriented at an angle of 60 to 90 degrees to the board's face. This cutting technique yields a stable board with a straight grain pattern and often exhibits attractive ray fleck, particularly in oak. Quartersawn lumber is less prone to cupping and twisting than plain-sawn lumber.
