A woodworking machine that shaves a consistent thickness from the face of a board, making it parallel to the opposite face. It uses a rotating cutterhead with multiple knives to remove material, producing lumber of uniform thickness and smooth surfaces. Thickness planers are commonly used after a jointer has established one flat reference face.
