Race rotation

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-004647

The slow turning of a bearing ring on its shaft or inside its housing, also called ring creep, instead of staying fixed to that part. It results from a fit that is too loose, meaning insufficient interference, so the mating surfaces slip against each other and wear shiny or scored. Remedies include a tighter interference fit, axial preload or clamping of the ring side face, and adhesive or a lubricant film on the seat.
