Racking

The distortion of a structural frame or panel, such as a wall or roof, from a rectangular shape into a parallelogram due to horizontal forces like wind or seismic activity. This deformation can compromise the stability and integrity of the structure. Shear walls and bracing are designed to resist racking forces.
