Road slug

A type of locomotive unit that lacks a prime mover and generator, instead drawing its power from a connected, powered locomotive. It contains traction motors and control equipment, increasing the tractive effort of the lead locomotive without adding another engine. Road slugs are often paired with a mother locomotive to handle heavy trains on steep grades.
