B-unit

A type of locomotive unit that lacks a control cab and must be operated in conjunction with an A-unit or another cab-equipped locomotive. B-units provide additional power for a train without requiring a separate crew position. They are often used in multiple-unit consists for heavy freight or passenger trains.
