Roughage

A type of livestock feed, such as hay, silage, or pasture grass, that is high in dietary fiber and low in digestible nutrients. It forms the bulk of the diet for ruminant animals like cattle and sheep, stimulating cud chewing and maintaining proper digestive function. Roughage is classified as having more than 18 percent crude fiber on a dry matter basis.
