Short block

An engine assembly consisting of the engine block, crankshaft, connecting rods, and pistons, but without the cylinder heads, camshaft, or other ancillary components. This partial assembly is often sold as a replacement unit for engines requiring major internal repairs. A short block provides the core rotating assembly of an engine.
