Slap marker
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005346
A hand-held tattooing tool for livestock, mostly pigs, whose face carries rows of needle pins set in letters or numbers. The pins are coated with tattoo ink and the tool is slapped against the skin, usually on the shoulder or ham, so the ink is driven in and leaves a lasting mark. It identifies the herd of origin, and the mark stays legible on the carcass at slaughter.
