Slap mark

A temporary or permanent identification mark applied to the skin of livestock, particularly pigs, using a tool with sharp needles arranged in a pattern of letters or numbers. The tool is struck against the animal's shoulder or hindquarters, leaving a tattoo that is visible on the skin and after slaughter on the carcass. This marking method provides a traceable link from the carcass back to the farm of origin for food safety and herd management.
