Pontil mark

A small, rough scar or indentation left on the base of a hand-blown glass object where the pontil rod was attached and then broken off. This mark is a characteristic sign of traditional glassblowing techniques. While sometimes ground smooth, it often remains as a testament to the handmade nature of the piece.
