Moil

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003729

The excess glass remaining on a blowpipe or punty after a blown-glass object has been detached. This material, which includes the area where the pipe was connected, is considered waste and is broken off from the main piece during the finishing process. The removed moil is recycled as cullet, which is remelted and incorporated into new batches of glass, reducing raw material consumption and energy costs.
