Spur
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-007267
A sharp pointed projection at the rim of a boring bit, found on auger bits and brad-point twist bits, that scores the wood fibres around the circumference of the hole before the cutting lips lift out the waste. Scoring first gives a clean-edged hole with little tear-out. Forstner bits instead cut with a continuous rim and a central point.
