Stalk-cutter
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005606
A farm implement that chops or shreds plant residue, such as corn stalks or cotton plants, left in a field after harvest. It consists of a series of rotating blades or flails mounted on a horizontal shaft, which pulverize the stalks to accelerate decomposition and prepare the seedbed for the next crop. Stalk-cutters are distinct from mowers as they are built for heavy-duty shredding of tough, woody material rather than cutting green forage.
