Start
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005620
A young plant, also known as a transplant or seedling, that has been germinated and grown in a controlled environment like a greenhouse or nursery before being planted in a field. Using starts gives crops a head start on the growing season, which is particularly advantageous in regions with short summers. This method provides more uniform crop stands and better weed control compared to direct seeding in the field.
