An excavation or enlarged chamber created at the side of a mine shaft or incline. It serves as a primary access point and landing for a specific working level, providing space for loading and unloading personnel, materials, and ore into the conveyance or skip. Stations are cut at regular vertical intervals, such as every 50 to 100 meters, corresponding to the mine's main production levels or sublevels.
