An informal command to press the accelerator pedal forcefully in order to increase a vehicle's speed quickly. The phrase is a direct instruction to the driver to accelerate, either to merge into traffic, pass another vehicle, or respond to a changing road situation. This expression originates from the physical action of stepping on the gas pedal, which is located on the floor of the vehicle.
