Stone mulching

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-007287

The agricultural and landscaping practice of covering the soil surface with a layer of rocks, gravel, or pebbles instead of organic material. This method suppresses weed growth, conserves soil moisture by reducing evaporation, and moderates soil temperature. Unlike organic mulches, stone does not decompose and needs infrequent replacement, but it also does not add nutrients to the soil as it breaks down.
