Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005887
The evening bugle or drum signal in armed forces that recalls personnel to ship or barracks and warns that lights will soon be put out. The word comes from the Dutch taptoe, a call telling tavern keepers to turn off the taps for the night. By extension, a military tattoo is also a public display of music and drill.
