Telesurgery
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-007305
A form of robotic surgery where a surgeon operates on a patient from a remote location using a master console that controls a robotic surgical system at the patient's side. The surgeon views the surgical field through a high-definition 3D display and manipulates instruments that translate their hand movements into precise actions by the robot's arms. Network latency, the delay in data transmission between the surgeon's console and the robot, must be consistently below 200 milliseconds for the procedure to be performed safely.
