Telephone exchange

A central facility in a telecommunications network that connects telephone lines of subscribers to each other, as well as to other exchanges and networks. It routes calls between different users, enabling communication over long distances. Modern telephone exchanges are largely digital and computer-controlled, managing millions of calls simultaneously.
