Traffic stop

The temporary detention of a motor vehicle by law enforcement for an alleged violation of traffic laws or for investigative purposes. During a traffic stop, an officer interacts with the driver and occupants to address the reason for the stop. Drivers are generally required to provide their license, registration, and proof of insurance.
